The Biocontrol Coalition is proud to be among the signatories, brought together by EuropaBio (the European Association for Bioindustries), supporting EU Biotech Act II, an important step toward strengthening Europe’s leadership in biomanufacturing and ensuring the successful transition to more sustainable agricultural systems.
Biocontrol products depend on advanced biomanufacturing processes to be produced at scale and delivered consistently to the market. In addition, crops protected by biocontrol may also serve as raw materials for biomanufacturing. Yet in Europe, fragmented regulatory frameworks and limited support for industrial scale-up continue to slow production of biocontrol and delay access for farmers.
At the same time, global competitors, such as the US, India and China, are investing heavily in biomanufacturing. Without a coordinated EU approach, Europe risks losing both production capacity and market leadership in this strategic sector. For farmers, this has real consequences. Delays in market access and limited availability can restrict the uptake of biocontrol solutions.
The EU Biotech Act II can help address these challenges by supporting scale-up, improving coordination across Member States, and creating a more predictable framework for investment in biomanufacturing.
For the Biocontrol Coalition, this is about ensuring that innovation reaches the field. A stronger biomanufacturing ecosystem is a critical piece of the fit-for-purpose regulatory framework that would enable farmers across Europe to access reliable, effective biocontrol tools, supporting more resilient and sustainable crop production systems.
