Open Letter to President von der Leyen

April 2024

The Biocontrol Coalition has recently issued an open letter directed to President Ursula von der Leyen.

This letter comes in direct response to Mrs. von der Leyen’s recent address to the European Parliament on February 1st. During her speech, she acknowledged the challenges surrounding the Sustainable Use Regulation (SUR) and emphasized the need for “more dialogue and a different approach.”

Our coalition, comprising farmers, consumers, and biocontrol producers, has united with a common goal: advocating for increased biocontrol innovation in Europe. We firmly believe that fostering biocontrol innovation is key for transitioning towards more sustainable food systems.

However, we face substantial hurdles within the current European regulatory framework, hindering progress towards our objectives. Consequently, we urge the Commission to incorporate a dedicated agenda item in its 2024-29 work program to promote and facilitate the introduction of more biocontrol innovations into the market.

Within the letter, we meticulously delineate the barriers obstructing innovation and present preliminary solutions. We eagerly anticipate further discussions to delve deeper into these crucial matters.

Your support is indispensable in our endeavors. We warmly invite you to endorse the letter and stand with us.
